(WASHINGTON, D.C.) –In response to adoption of his amendment to the FY2012 Defense Authorization bill, Rep. Rich Nugent (FL-05) issued the following statement:

“Since 2001, members of our Armed Forces who have served in combat have been eligible for the Combat Action Badge medal.  My amendment corrects a long-standing oversight by making that medal retroactively available to Army combat veterans who served prior to 2001.

“As the veterans themselves requested, the cost of the medal will not be borne by the taxpayer, but rather by the veterans who receive it.

“This is a fitting tribute to our combat veterans and I was pleased that the House agreed to my amendment.”
