REP NUGENT DISSAPOINTED FOLLOWING MEETING WITH THE PRESIDENT:

“FRANKLY, IT WAS A WASTE OF TIME”

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Following a budget meeting with the President at the White House, Rep. Rich Nugent (FL-05) issued the following statement:

“It’s always nice to get an invitation to the White House, but frankly, I think our meeting with the President was a waste of time.

“For years, President Obama has been saying he thinks we need to address the debt, but he doesn’t follow through with any real specifics – just a few token gestures and talking points.

“The President talks in general terms about the need to bring down our debt, but has no specific plans of his own to achieve that.  Instead, he uses his bully pulpit to attack anybody who makes a real proposal.  That’s not leadership, that’s politics.

“House Republicans once again asked the President to step up to the plate and be a leader on budget reform.  The President said he agrees in principle, but I’m not holding my breath.  The American people want results and all the photo ops in the world won’t get us there.”
