October 2011
In the last week, the Obama Administration indefinitely delayed implementation of an integral part of ObamaCare, the CLASS Act.

I have always marveled at the brilliance of our Founding Fathers in creating the Constitution, a document that has endured the test of time. In fact, when you consider that since its creation and adoption,it has only been amended 27 times, and ten of those amendments were the Bill of Rights adopted in 1791, their wisdom and foresight is beyond impressive. It is inspired.
The memories of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 have been seared into our minds - where we were, what we were doing, and how we responded remain as fresh today as they were ten years ago. Most of us instantly reached out to our families, reassuring ourselves that they were safe and unharmed. And then, for days, we sat in front of our television sets, our hearts broken and our blood boiling as we watched and listened to the news.
The bad news keeps coming - zero jobs last month, and an unemployment rate rising again back to 9.1%. The Obama administration told us the "stimulus" worked. They said over a year ago that it was "recovery summer".

Happy Labor Day

On the first Monday in September, we traditionally celebrate Labor Day. . In addition to the family activities and barbecues, the holiday actually has a long and distinguished history. The first Labor Day was observed on September 5, 1882 in Boston, and became a federal holiday in 1894.

I wanted to take a minute to give you all an update about the debt negotiations and to emphasize once again where I stand on the issues. First off, because we have so many seniors living in the District, I wanted to address the President's speech the other day in which he tried to say that seniors would have to go without Social Security
checks if the debt ceiling deal isn't reached.
It's America's birthday and despite all of the challenges we face as a nation, I feel so very blessed to be an American. Ours is the greatest country on earth, and despite some missteps along the way, it is important to take some time today to think about all that this country stands for and what it has done for all of us.
June 2011
I recently had the opportunity to visit Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan to see firsthand the conditions on the ground. There is no doubt in my mind that each of those countries faces serious challenges in the years to come, challenges that I do not believe the United States of America can unilaterally solve. The one bright spot is the fine job that our military is doing.

Celebrating Flag Day

Inspired by these three decades of state and local celebrations, Flag Day - the anniversary of the Flag Resolution of 1777 - was officially established by the Proclamation of President Woodrow Wilson on May 30th, 1916. While Flag Day was celebrated in various communities for years after Wilson's proclamation, it was not until August 3rd, 1949, that President Truman signed an Act of Congress designating June 14th of each year as National Flag Day.
May 2011
All Memorial Days are special, but with three sons away from home and serving in the military, this holiday is especially meaningful to my wife Wendy and me. I know that all of us are feeling a special pride in our military with the recent actions of our Navy Seals in bringing to justice the most notorious terrorist of all - Osama bin Laden.
